The street was silent but of footfall,
On the cold gravel it resounds
A dark, deep melancholic call,
That the bravest of hearts it pounds.
From fear, the blood rushes fast
And through the veins it freezes
To keep an ephemeral phase in a cast
And dismiss away time’s leases.
The pounding heart do thud
Like a sweating hound it pants
The pearls perspire to drop on mud
And seep away like shriveling ants.
A silhouette appears on the wall,
And the man harbors in his coat
Afraid of a shadow so huge and tall
Disappears the boldness he was taught.
And as he pursuits some sanctuary
He scuffles and helplessly slumps around
To find that he is along with vulnerability
That nothing from it will help him unbound.
